PV Crystalox Solar plc

Principal Business
PV Crystalox Solar, initially established in the UK in 1982, is a highly specialized supplier of multicrystalline silicon wafers to the world's leading solar cell manufacturers. The Group was one of the first to develop multicrystalline technology on an industrial scale, setting the industry standard for ingot production.

PV activities
The Group manufactures silicon ingots in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, and carries out wafer production for European customers at its facilities in Erfurt, Germany. Wafers for customers in Asia are produced in Japan. Wafer shipments output in 2007 was 190MWp and is projected to increase to 225MWp in 2008. PV Crystalox Solar was admitted to the main market of the London Stock Exchange on 11 June 2007. The company has begun construction of its own polysilicon production facility in Bitterfeld, Germany. Commercial production will start in 2009 with projected output of 900MT in the first year of operation and increasing to 1800MT in 2011. This internal production will provide access to cost effective silicon and will be a key driver of their future growth and profitability. Continuous improvement in silicon utilization remains a key objective of the Group. The company is the leader in the PV industry in wafer thickness reduction with all wafers supplied at 200μm or below. They believe that over the next ten years high solar cell efficiency concepts based on crystalline silicon technology is the best option to make solar electricity competitive with conventional electricity.
