Niedersachsen: A Location with a Future

Niedersachsen is the second largest state by land area and, with a population of ca. 8 million, the fourth largest state by number of inhabitants in Germany. Within the global economy the state is already in a leading position in many future-oriented industries and in nearly all sectors. Niedersachsen’s economy is hence at the forefront in many industries. Meanwhile CeBIT and the HANNOVER MESSE have made the state capital Hanover one of the most important and prominent trade fair locations in the world.

Niedersachsen’s transportation infrastructure, which combines roads, railways and waterways, is excellent. Numerous seaports, inland ports and airports as well as cargo transport centres guarantee outstanding connectivity and cross-linking options. In the logistics sector Niedersachsen provides tailor-made options for all types of logistics. Tradition-steeped universities and research facilities make Niedersachsen a world-class research platform, which has its strength in the universitarian, technical college as well as the corporate environment.

Focus on renewable energies: The shortage of fossil resources and the price trend on the energy market are making the increased use of renewable energies necessary. Therefore, Niedersachsen supports the target of the European Parliament to cover 25 percent of the total energy demand through renewable energies by 2020. However, renewable energies have in the meantime become an important economic factor as well: Throughout Germany this sector employs more 170,000 people and offers future-oriented apprenticeships to 12,000 young people.

The economic policy in Niedersachsen supports the competitiveness of enterprises in the state and thus also growth and employment.
