Danish Wind Industry Association

The Danish Wind Industry Association is a non-profit association whose purpose is to promote wind energy on the Danish market and abroad. The association was founded in 1981 and today represents 99.9 per cent of Danish wind turbine manufacturing measured in MW and more than 180 companies with activities in the Danish wind industry.

The Danish wind industry has experienced an explosive growth in the last 10 years. From turnover figures in 1996 at 2.9 billion Danish krones, the turnover had in 2006 increased to 32,6 billion DKK. This turnover only concerns production within Denmark. Including turnover from international facilities owned by Danish companies the turnover reached 48,5 billion DKK in 2006.

The export from the Danish wind industry was in 2006 27 billion krones. In 2006 the Danish manufactures sold 5.439 MW; power roughly corresponding to 33 percentage of the global market. If turbine wings and other components are included, the Danish wind industry has a market share of 40 percentages on the global market.

By the end of January 2007 there were 5.267 turbines installed in Denmark with a total power of 3.135 MW.
