The China Cleantech Business Forum, China Entrepreneurs
From 2009-07-07 to 2009-07-08
Venue: Shangri La’s Kerry Centre (CBD), Beijing, China
As the threat of global warming grew to become a forefront issue on the international agenda, the cleantech industry found strong entrepreneurial interest and investment support. Most of this resulting growth took place in the West, fostered by both developed technologies and robust business ecosystems. However, recent research from the Cleantech Group presents strong evidence that China is strategically positioned to leapfrog the West in cleantech. Some representative achievements include:
• Aggressive national targets for renewable energy (e.g. 100GW of wind capacity by 2020, 30GW of biomass, etc.)
• Plans to turn China into the world leader in electric cars and hybrid buses, including the development of a nationwide network of recharging stations, and the development of advanced lithium ion manufacturing capabilities
• Plans for the construction of dozens of next-generation nuclear plants
• The signing of numerous supply deals for oil and critical industrial commodities
Although cleantech venture capital investments in China are still small, Chinese companies have been successful in breaking through the ranks to become top players in both the solar (Yingli, LDK, Suntech, Renesola, etc.) and wind (Goldwind, Sinovel) industries. These growing examples reflect the positive growth and direction of cleantech in China.
Recognizing the immense cleantech opportunities available in China, China Entrepreneurs will be hosting the China Cleantech Business Forum on July 7-8 in Beijing. The forum will host respected leaders in the industry including executive chairman of the Cleantech group, Nicholas Parker, covering topics for succeeding, investing, and understanding the cleantech industry.
