Pascal SECULA, President of FEDEREC, the French Recycling Federation, was interviewed by GreenTechFocus to discuss FEDEREC's position as an important supplier of high quality raw materials to China.FEDEREC recently signed an agreement with the China National Resources Recycling Association to improve the technology transfer in recycling and improve the trade among the two countries in this field. What is the importance of Chinese demand for raw materials for the French recycling industry?
Indeed with such an agreement we want to improve information exchange and trade between the recycling companies in France and in China. As we are aware of being in surplus of recycled material in France for certain raw materials and China being the main mover and shaper in the global demand for raw materials, to address this market is among the priorities for the French companies, but not necessarily the main focus.
What are the competitive advantages of the French recycling industry in providing raw materials to China?
Because of the quality of our production we are getting out the waste statute. This requires important certification and normalization efforts for which the French recycling industry has always proved to be at the forefront. The French Recycling Federation (FEDEREC) is one of the professional organizations that is absolutely unique in the world for its long history and current organization. There are very few professional recycling organizations that embrace all the branches of recycling: ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastic, carton, glass. It is not by accident that several of FEDEREC past president have become President of the Bureau of International Recycling, as it is currently the case.
What would be your message to the Chinese professionals in Recycling industry?
The agreement we signed this year with China National Resources Recycling Association is the guarantee that we are looking to build a long term relation, based on the concept of quality. Too often we hear word “wastes” for our production and “emerging country” for China. I consider those words outdated. Our objective is to play our role in supplying China’s need for raw materials, but providing quality row materials.
