Dr. Manfred Schneider to become new Supervisory Board Chairman of RWE AG, RWE

Dr. Manfred Schneider, Member of the Supervisory Board of RWE AG since December 1992, is the new Supervisory Board Chairman of the company. At an extraordinary meeting on 1 May, Dr. Schneider was elected successor to Dr. Thomas R. Fischer, who had been Chairman of the Supervisory Board since 8 December 2004 and who laid down his mandate with effect on 30 April 2009, for personal reasons. The mandate of the Supervisory Board will end in April 2011.


The Supervisory and Executive Boards of RWE wish to thank Dr. Fischer for his long-standing and successful work as Chairman of the Supervisory Board. During his time in office, the company achieved a great deal and prepared the ground well for the future.

The new Supervisory Board Chairman was born on 21 December 1938 in Bremerhaven, Germany, and studied Business Administration at the Universities of Freiburg, Hamburg and Cologne. After gaining his degree in Business Administration (Diplom-Kaufmann) he worked as an assistant to the Chair of Business Administration at the Technische Hochschule Aachen. During his time there he did his Phd to become Dr. rer. pol.

Dr. Schneider spent his professional career at Bayer AG, starting work at that company in 1966. On 1 January 1987, Dr Schneider was appointed to the Executive Board, five years later he became its Chairman. After his active career, he moved to the Supervisory Board of Bayer AG, where he was appointed Chairman after the General Meeting in 2002.

Dr. Schneider is also a member of a number of other bodies. In addition to his activities as top supervisor at RWE and Bayer, he is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Linde AG, Munich as well as Member of the Supervisory Boards of Daimler AG, Stuttgart and TUI AG, Hanover among others. From October 1999 to 2001, he was President of the German chemical industry association VCI.
