Release Date: 2009-05-24
Foundation contractor, BOMEL Ltd. has awarded Densit the order for carrying out the grouting of transition pieces to monopiles, which is part of the foundation works for 100 wind turbines at the Thanet offshore wind farm.
Thanet will be the 19th offshore wind farm to apply the efficient, cost-effective and high strength DucoritĀ® grout connection between monopiles and transition pieces.
The Thanet project is owned by Vattenfall and involves the installation of 100 Vestas V90 3.0 MW wind turbines located approximately 11 km off the North East Kent coast in the UK.
BOMEL Ltd. has been appointed contractor for design, supply and installation of the monopile foundations which comprise a steel pile driven into the seabed and afterwards a transition piece slide and leveled over the pile. As subcontractor Densit carries out the grouting of the annulus between transition pieces and monopiles applying its ultra high strength DucoritĀ® grout.
The Densit grouting services comprise planning, supply of DucoritĀ® grout, installation, test sampling and documentation. Construction of foundations will commence in the spring 2009.
The Thanet offshore wind farm is scheduled to be completed in 2010, and on average it will produce enough electricity to supply 240,000 homes with green electricity.
