Developing countries top in emissions, COP 15
Release Date: 2009-06-26
2008 marked the first year in history for emissions from developing countries to exceed those of industrialized nations. Recession in the old economies is part of the background.
In 2008, for the first time in history, total greenhouse gas emissions from developing countries were more than half of global emissions – or 50.3 percent to be exact. The figure is given in a study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) using data from BP (British Petroleum).
