Fortum and Mitsubishi team up to promote electric motoring, Fortum

Release Date: 2009-06-30

Fortum and Mitsubishi will start marketing collaboration in Finland and Sweden with the goal to promote electric motoring and thus reduce traffic emissions. Events will be held around Finland and Sweden this year to showcase the benefits of electric vehicle technology and the Mitsubishi iMiEV electric car.

Electrifying motoring is one way to save energy, curb climate change and advance a more sustainable energy economy. So far, industrial production of electric cars has been at a rather small-scale level. The Mitsubishi iMiEV will be available on the Finnish market in spring 2011 and is, in fact, the first all-electric passenger car aimed for the mass markets in Europe. Its carbon dioxide emissions are at least 72% less than those of combustion engine cars.

One important way to promote the mainstreaming of electric cars is to actively participate in various events where the impacts of electric motoring can be discussed openly and practical information about electric cars and recharging them can be provided. This allows car manufacturers and recharging network developers to gain valuable insight into the kinds of questions people have about recharging and using electric vehicles.

"When the Mitsubishi iMiEV field test car arrives in Finland next autumn, Mitsubishi and Fortum will be working with dealers in the cities of Helsinki, Oulu, Vaasa, Kuopio, Jyväskylä, Tampere, Turku, Kouvola and Pori to showcase the possibilities of electric motoring. You can get a sneak-peek of the new electric car at Fortum’s stand at the SuomiAreena forum in Pori on July 15-17, 2009, where the car will make its Finnish debut", sums up Pekka Koski, PR Manager of Mitsubishi’s importer Vemic Auto.

Fortum is currently developing a recharging network to promote the wide-scale adoption of electric cars when car manufacturers introduce rechargeable hybrids and all-electric vehicles to consumer markets within the next few years.
