The new RWE energy efficiency company is being launched as scheduled on 1 July in Dortmund. The new company, RWE Effizienz GmbH, pools RWE’s activities and expertise in this area. Its purpose is to ensure the rapid development of energy-efficient solutions for the key residential and mobility areas. Work is focused on private customers, small and medium-sized enterprises, municipalities, tradespeople and architects. The managing directors of the company, which will initially employ some 70 staff, are Hanns-Ferdinand Mueller and Norbert Verweyen, both experienced RWE managers.

“As energy consumption increases world-wide, we want to make use of all energy sources,” said Juergen Grossmann, Chairman of the Board at RWE AG. “This is why energy efficiency is the main key to successfully coping with climate change.”
“Energy-efficient products are becoming more and more important to the RWE Group,” added RWE AG Executive Board member Rolf Martin Schmitz. “This is an area where we can clearly show that we are faster than the competition and where we can demonstrate the energy to lead.”

Initially, RWE Effizienz GmbH will consist of six business areas. Smart Metering is the energy meter of the future, providing customers with comprehensive data about energy consumption and helping to save electricity. In the model city Muelheim an der Ruhr, RWE is equipping a total of 100,000 households with the new technology, a project that it intends to complete by 2011. The Smart Home area develops and tests computer systems to control building services and takes them through to the series production stage. In the Energy House of the Future, RWE links and tests innovative energy efficiency technologies. Model houses are already in place in Essen, Wesel and Bergheim.

The business areas of electricity and natural gas mobility create the necessary prerequisites for using energy-efficient automobiles powered by electricity and natural gas. The energy efficiency portal www.energiewelt.de offering private customers a complete range of energy efficiency services, from providing advice to implementation, will go online on 1 September.
