The Danish government plans a national test centre for wind turbines
The Danish government plans a national test centre for wind turbines, reports the Danish Energy Association in its daily newsletter. Because of the size and popular interest in the facility, a law needs to be adopted to implement the plan. Minister for the Environment Troels Lund Poulsen has asked the Agency for Spatial and Environmental Planning to prepare a proposal for legislation that will be ready in the autumn.
"It is of national importance that Denmark can offer the very comprehensive facilities that the wind turbine industry needs to test their prototypes. A test centre is necessary for retaining development of wind turbines in Denmark and continuing to have a leading position on this important market. But a test centre is a major facility on par with motorways and bridges, and it requires a very large area, so I think that such a decision should have the support of a majority in parliament," said Troels Lund Poulsen.
A cross-disciplinary committee at the Agency for Spatial and Environmental Planning is currently looking at possible locations for the test centre.
The new national centre will test wind turbines that are up to 250 metres high. The development of the centre will be carried out in close collaboration with the wind turbine industry.
