Greenpeace: Chinese power companies are damaging the climate, COP 15
Release Date: 2009-07-29
According to a report issued Tuesday by the environmental group, the three biggest state-owned power companies in China produced more greenhouse gases in 2008 than the UK.
China's three largest energy suppliers emitted more greenhouse gases than all of Britain last year, environmental watchdog Greenpeace China said in a report issued Tuesday.
The report reflects the heavy reliance on coal that is hampering China's efforts to tackle climate change.
