First Chinese company carbon neutral, COP 15
Release Date: 2009-08-07
For the price of 40,627 dollars Tianping Auto became the first carbon neutral company in China.
China is the largest supplier to the global market of carbon credits, so far selling credits to foreign investors only as it does not have a domestic carbon market. But now that situation might change, as the first Chinese company has become carbon neutral after it purchased 8,025 tons of carbon credits for 40,627 US dollars.
The credits were being accumulated by commuters during the Beijing Olympics last year and auctioned through the Beijing Environment Exchange.
The buyer is an automobile insurer from Shanghai, Tianping Auto.
