The COP15-capital may have small private wind turbines all over town, COP 15

Release Date: 2009-08-21

Three small mini wind turbines in the garden are sufficient to supply one average household with energy.
A majority in the Copenhagen City Council is ready to support a proposal that allows businesses and private property owners to set up mini wind turbines across Copenhagen.

"I’m absolutely in support of the proposal. Mini wind turbines would visualize and actualize our efforts in moving towards renewable energy," Mayor of the Technical and Environmental Administration, Klaus Bondam tells Berlingske Tidende.

The mini wind turbines, developed by Dong Energy, in no way resemble their gigantic cousins. Mini wind turbines – commonly called wind spires – are around nine meters high and have rotors which rotate on a vertical axis. However, they do not produce as much energy.

According to Dong Energy, three wind spires are estimated to supply one average household with energy. The cost is about 32,000 Euros (46,000 US dollars).
