Release Date: 2009-12-10

The UK Offshore Wind Workshop in Nanjing, China, organized by UK Renewables and Scottish Development International as part of a UK trade mission to China, was aimed at “promoting the UK as the world's leading centre of excellence and the preferred base for addressing the whole European market”, according to John Buckley, Head of the Trade Promotion for UK Renewables
The UK-Nanjing workshop was attended by over 100 Chinese companies, provincial government officials, developers, associations and component suppliers. It saw strong networking opportunities for those involved and great exposure for the UK and its strength in offshore wind in terms of its experience, expertise, skills and R&D capability.

With strong government backing, the UK is consolidating its lead in offshore wind energy. The UK already has more offshore wind energy than any other country, the biggest wind farm in the world about to start construction and now the biggest turbine blades in the world will be made here.

According to Paul O’Brien, Senior Executive at Scottish Development International, who was recently interviewed by GreenTechFocus.com, “Our focus in China is in the offshore wind industry. We’re looking to attract the Chinese companies into the UK with Scotland as the centre of manufacturing and assembling and actually enter the offshore wind market.”
