Danfoss solenoid valve leads to fewer compactor machine failures – and higher sales , Danfoss

Release Date: 2010-01-07

When Danfoss asked one of China’s leading mobile hydraulics companies how it could help improve the company’s road compactor machines, the answer was simple: boost efficiency and reduce failures. So Danfoss looked carefully at the design and found a problem with the compactor’s water pump control unit. The units were one of the most common causes of equipment failure, and this meant high after-sales service costs for the manufacturer
Danfoss’ solution was to replace the pump control unit with an EV310B solenoid valve. An extremely reliable and robust valve, the EV310B would make the water spraying unit more efficient, and would reduce equipment failures from 16 percent to less than 1 percent. There was just one snag: the new design was more expensive to produce.

But production costs are never the full story – and it soon became apparent that reducing the number of breakdowns that occur within the machine’s guarantee period would lead to significant savings for the manufacturer.

Combined with increased sales driven by the new more efficient product, the Danfoss design was clearly good value for money. In fact, taking into account the entire product life-cycle, the manufacturer estimates that the new design generates over 700 Euros in added value for each compactor machine it produces.
