Release Date: 2010-01-26

With 130,000 gross register tonnage, 306 meters in length, 62 meter air draft, 2,558 cabins for 4,633 guests and 1,367 crew members, “Carnival Dream”, Carnival Cruise Lines’ new flagship is the largest cruise ship ever built in Italy and by Fincantieri
The ship, with a maximum speed of 22.5 knots, features a Converteam electric propulsion system comprising 2 synchronous motors, each 22MW at 135rpm, fed by synchro-converters. Sea trials went on successfully mid-2009.

This propulsion technology is well proven and was also implemented on “Carnival Freedom”, “Carnival Splendor” and “Carnival Liberty”, and many other Carnival group brand ships.

Jean-Philippe Chaignot, Marine Division Sales Director at Converteam SAS commented: “Converteam has been delighted to achieve this series and to reinforce its partnership with Carnival and Fincantieri, 25 ships in our history with Fincantieri. At Converteam, our engineers are committed to designing a state of the art propulsion: silent, green and flexible.”

An adventure that has started for decades and that continues to fascinate.
