RBS greentech director to head CO2 offset certifier

Release Date: 2010-05-10

LONDON, May 10 (Reuters) - Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS.L) director of new energy technologies will leave the bank to head a Swiss-based carbon offset certifier, industry sources told Reuters.

Adrian Rimmer, previously director of eco-markets at ABN AMRO, will join Geneva-based The Gold Standard as CEO in the coming months.

"I have been offered the Gold Standard role and I'm highly likely to accept it," Rimmer told Reuters.

"The Gold Standard has a fabulous reputation and plays a key role in ensuring the carbon market's legitimacy."

The Gold Standard, a non-governmental organisation backed by some 60 green groups, certifies greenhouse gas offsets from clean energy projects aro und the world in the unregulated $700 million market for voluntary carbon credits.

Swiss-based Gold Standard's credits are considered premium and often command prices above the market rate.

Michael Schlup, Gold Standard's previous CEO, left the company late last year and has since joined Swiss start-up climate fund Islan Asset Management. [ID
