The EcoEntrepreneurXXI programme is launched to foster the creation of companies in the clean technology industry, Gamesa

Barcelona, 1 June 2010. EcoEntrepreneurXXI was unveiled today, a programme designed to encourage growth in the strategic clean technology industry. The initiative is jointly sponsored by Gamesa, La Caixa, Barcelona Activa, the Catalonian Government’s Department of Economy and Finance, and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, and aims to foster the creation and growth of innovative, technology-based companies.
Participants in today’s event included Amalia Blanco, Gamesa Managing Director of Institutional Relations; Pere Guardiola, La Caixa; Director of Institutions in Catalonia; Anna Molero, Managing Director of Barcelona Activa, Marcel Prunera, the Catalonian Government’s Managing Director for Economic Development, and Xavier Ricart, Deputy Manager of Business Development at the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. The event included a round table with several entrepreneurs, who discussed the peculiarities of the clean tech industry and shared their business experiences.

Joint cooperation among these public and private entities ensures that participants will gain a close-up view of the main requirements and trends in the clean tech industry, and learn about the business concerns and educational and financial demands required by the market. The initiative, a joint effort by public and private institutions, represents a guarantee of success for the companies created out of this programme.

The EcoEntrepreneurXXI programme facilitates the creation and development of innovative, high-quality and future-oriented companies in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, water cycle management and waste-to-energy technologies.

The programme is geared towards university graduates, researchers, professors, Ph.D.s and entrepreneurs who have an initial idea for a business or company and aim to undertake their own business endeavour, whether as a spin-off of another institution or as an independent company.

EcoEntrepreneurXXI is a comprehensive programme offering education, coaching and support to entrepreneurs, and makes available to participants a wide range of tools and resources to facilitate the start-up process and the growth of their companies. Educational activities will be conducted in English in order to attract entrepreneurial talent from around the world.

Entrepreneurs participating in this programme have an opportunity to start a company, broaden their network of contacts, develop managerial skills, access sources of financing, compete for a benchmark award which recognises technological innovation in the participant’s business plan and facilitates the start-up or growth of the proposed business activity, and participate in an investment conference and present a business plan, at an event attended by the leading sources of clean tech funding: venture capital funds, regional and central government institutions, etc.

The EcoEntrepreneurXXI award EcoEntrepreneurXXI rewards the creation of innovative, technology-based companies in the clean tech industry. Of the business plans submitted over the course of the EcoEntrepreneurXXI programme, two finalists and one winner will be selected.

The award consists of a series of educational, financing, internationalisation and incubator activities useful for launching business start-ups. The prize winner, in addition to receiving 20,000 euros, will have the opportunity to take part in an accelerated course at Cambridge University and participate in a technology and innovation bridge. The award also includes a free six-month stay at the Barcelona Activa Business Incubator. The first runner-up will receive 10,000 euros, while the second runner-up will receive 5,000 euros.
