Fortum plans a wind power park in Kalajoki, Finland, Fortum

Release Date: 2010-06-08

Fortum is developing a wind power project for the land area between Pohjankylä and Vasankari and signs land lease agreements regarding 450 hectares in the area still examining possibilities to expand the area. Preliminary studies indicate that the selected area is well-suited, both technically and environmentally, for wind power production.
Wind measurements in the areas will begin this year in an effort to record precise wind conditions. Fortum will also start working with the town of Kalajoki to draft the component master plan required for the project. An environmental impact assessment in accordance with the Finnish EIA Act will also be made for the project if so required by the contact authority North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The preliminary plan is to connect the wind power plants to the grid at the Kalajoki substation.

If further analyses indicate that the project is feasible, the wind power park could be built in 2013-2014 at the earliest.
