Expobioenergía has received 40 applications for the 15 co-financed workshop places

Release Date: 2010-08-05

Companies from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras and Uruguay will participate in the Expobioenergía 2010 business round

Expobioenergía 2010 has closed the period for submitting applications for the 15 subsidised places for participation in the workshop for companies from Europe and Latin America. The organisers received 40 applications from Latin American companies interested in participating in the business round which will be held in the exhibition area of the trade fair (27. 28. 29. October. Valladolid. Spain.)

The business round ‘Active Bioenergy’, organised by Expobioenergía, continues to be open to new participants originating from Latin America. In spite of a strict selection process having been followed by the event organisers, who have already allocated the 15 co-financed places whereby only the participation fee will have to be paid, the invitation remains open to businesspeople interested in participating and willing to pay the full cost.

The initiative has been warmly received with 40 applications having been submitted for the 15 co-financed places. Indeed, it is due to the high number of applicants, many of whom have been attracted by the excellent results of previous years, that the organisers have been compelled to apply such strict selection criteria. Some of the criteria taken into account when selecting the companies were the consolidated development and positioning of the companies in the sector; the technological progress of their projects and products; the level of interest in research in the bioenergy field, and their potential capacity to successfully conclude business agreements with European companies.

The invitation to Europe is now open

Having selected the countries from Latin America a registration period begins for European companies wishing to participate in the workshop. The sale of machinery, the search for representatives in the Latin American market, the setting up of partnerships and the development of projects are some of the reasons which drive the participation of brands from the old continent.

The quality and prestige of the companies represented in the successive editions of the workshop make the Expobioenergía business round an exclusive event. The activity presents a unique opportunity to bring together important firms from Latin America and Europe against the same backdrop. Perfect proof of this is the participation in various editions of the workshop of companies such as Ecralsur and John O’Ryan Surveyors from Chile, or Agraconsa from Honduras, as well as IMFYE, the Cartif Foundation and the Cidaut Foundation from Spain or the Italian brand Pezzolato.

“Short-term solutions”

Since 2007, Expobioenergía has opened a business platform with Latin America which is constantly updated each year. It is there where companies and organisations from various countries come into contact with each other. The initial exchange of economic information, which is the key for making commercial decisions is, in many cases, followed by investment. One of the main concerns for Latin American economies continues to be the high dependency on fossil fuels and, as such, on the foreign market. In this respect, some of the businesspeople participating in the workshop have explained their expectations with regard to Expobioenergía.

Julio César Lucas, from the company Quimys’ Oils. De R.L., is convinced from an energy perspective that “in our countries a lack of foresight now forces us to seek solutions in the short term”. For the executive from the Guatemalan company “it is of paramount importance to be aware of the various alternatives available for the production of clean energy in order to adapt them to our needs” and, it is indeed in this unrelenting search for technology that, according to him, “Expobioenergía will give us a broader overview of the direction to be followed in order to provide practical solutions to our problems.”

As far as José Martín Chicas is concerned, Managing Director of the Honduran firm Inmsa Argo Internacional, he also highlights the “important technology transfer offered by Expobioenergía” and puts particular emphasis on “the huge potential of Honduras and the Central American region to boost the generation of energy based on energy crops for clean power generation without flights of capital, whilst at the same time creating employment in agriculture”. Martín Chicas, who is also Vice President of the National Association of Industrialists of Honduras, does not hesitate to affirm that “energy cultivation is directing the sector’s future trend.”

Expobioenergía provides professionals in the sector with the list of the Latin American companies registered as well as technical information on each of them. The information is published in the Registered Companies are of the Workshop section at www.expobioenergia.com
