Converteam Chosen for Large Indian Plate Mill, Converteam

Rugby, 08 November 2010 - Danieli & C SpA has awarded power conversion specialist Converteam a contract, worth in excess of €20m, for major electrical engineering products and services for a new steel plate mill in India
The new Rourkela plate rolling facility, for Steel Authority of India (SAIL), situated in the state of Orissa in North East India, will have an initial yearly production capacity of 0.92 million tonnes of steel plate with a provision for future expansion to 1.674 million tonnes.

With its leading edge power conversion and control solutions Converteam is responsible for the complete electrical package including design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of equipment as diverse as motors, drives, transformers, basic plant automation in co-operation with Danieli Automation, operator control desks, HMI and a CCTV system.

Converteam is present in India with more than 400 personnel supporting engineering and commercial operations from its bases in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. The project will also draw on Converteam’s resources in UK and Germany to deliver the engineering and manufacturing effort for this strategically important project.

The new Rourkela plant is expected to be fully operational in a little under three years.
