Suzlon enters Sri Lankan wind market, secures order for 10 MW wind farm project, Suzlon Wind Energy

Suzlon Energy Ltd., the world’s fifth leading and India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer*, announced market entry into Sri Lanka with an order to supply 10 MW of wind turbine capacity to a project developed by Senok Wind Power Pvt. Ltd. The project, supplied with eight units of Suzlon’s S64 – 1.25 MW wind turbines, will come up in the Kalpitiya region of Sri Lanka. Supply of turbines to the project will commence in FY09, with project completion slated for FY10.
The order marks key firsts for Sri Lanka’s wind energy sector, as the first project to feature megawatt-class turbines, and also the first project by a private developer.
Sri Lanka’s Senok Group is a diversified business conglomerate with businesses ranging from construction machinery, automotives, infrastructure development, tea, haulage to mining. The group has an established presence in the clean energy space with investments in mini-hydro projects.
Speaking on the order, Mr. Rohit Modi, President (India) - Suzlon Energy Limited, said: “This is a key new order for Suzlon.
