Release Date: 2009-01-21

The Danish Minister for Climate and Energy, Mrs. Connie Hedegaard, commented on the inauguration speech of US president Barack Obama:

"Barack Obama links the will to change the American society to the entire history and fundamental identity of the country. America is made by the ones that bring about change – the risk takers and the doers."

"In his speech Barack Obama directly addressed renewable energy sources – wind and solar power – and he spoke of the necessity to renew the energy infrastructure. By doing so, he shows that this issue is a priority for him – in spite of and because of the worldwide economic crisis."

"He prepares the Americans for hard times and stresses that facing the challenges will not be easy. But he also shows that he sticks to the agenda he outlined during the election."
