REA sets out tariff scheme blueprint, Renewable Energy Association
Release Date: 2009-03-27
The renewables industry has presented a tariff design 'blueprint' for the UK to the Energy Minister Mike O'Brien at the REA Tariff Conference, Royal Institute, London
REA Director General Philip Wolfe handed the document to Mike O'Brien saying it contained "not all the answers, but definitely some of them" and that the REA and the industry was looking forward to working with government to successfully implement tariffs for electricity, heat and biogas.
"Amid much bad news the introduction of tariffs is a genuine cause for excitement," said Mr Wolfe.
The industry had hoped that the Minister would announce a decision on the eligibility of renewables projects built from the present day to qualify for tariffs when they come into play in 2010 and 2011. However Mike O'Brien did not offer an decisive answer only that eligibility for Feed in Tariffs would be announced ahead of the summer consultation. The remainder of the conference heard numerous calls for clarity on this point and it is anticipated that this will now be announced in the forthcoming budget.
