Obama invites Denmark to climate and energy forum in Washington, Danish Ministry of Climate and Energy

The US president has invited Denmark to attend the first in a series of meetings to discuss climate and energy issues under the banner "Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate"



US President Barack Obama has invited representatives of 17 major world economies to discuss energy and climate issues at a series of meetings, the first of which is scheduled to be held in Washington at the end of April, reports the Danish Energy Association in its daily newsletter.

As host country for the all-important UN Climate Change Conference COP15 in December this year, Denmark has also been invited to the Washington meeting. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will also attend. Specific issues for discussion at this meeting include technology, financing and emission quota trading.

The White House has issued a press release announcing that the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate will "facilitate a candid dialogue among key developed and developing countries, help generate the political leadership necessary to achieve a successful outcome at the UN climate change negotiations that will convene this December in Copenhagen".

The 17 major economies are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
